
40-Hour Lead Supervisor Initial, In-Person, March 16/17/23/24/27, 2026

Connecticut Department of Public Health Approved Lead Initial Course:
Lead Supervisor courses offered at Chem Scope are CT DPH Approved under 20-478-1 through 3. Since Connecticut is an EPA authorized state, the course are also EPA Accredited under EPA CFR 40 745.226 and meet requirements of OSHA 1926.62. Training may be accepted in other states. Check with individual states for any new requirements and added requirements for licensing or certification. Students who successfully complete the initial course and pass a third party federal exam become eligible to be certified by DPH in this discipline. They have to meet state requirements, submit a fee and an application. Students must have annual refresher before getting their certification renewed.
Lead Supervisor Initial Training Description:
The course includes lectures, demonstrations, at least eight hours of hands-on training, a hands on skills assessment, and a written examination. The course includes instruction on:
- Background information on lead and its adverse health effects.
- Background information on federal, state, and local regulations and guidance that pertains to lead- based paint abatement.
- Legal and insurance issues relating to lead-based paint abatement.
- Development of preabatement work plan
- Hazard recognition and control
- Respiratory protection and protective clothing
- Lead paint abatement or lead hazard reduction including prohibited methods
- Interior dust abatement/cleanup or lead hazard reduction
- Soil and exterior dust abatement or lead hazard reduction
- Clearance standards and testing
- Cleanup and Waste disposal
- Community relations process
- Cost estimation
- Recordkeeping
- Role and responsibilities of a supervisor.
- Liability and insurance issues relating to lead-based paint abatement
- Risk assessment and inspection report interpretation
- Development and implementation of an occupant protection plan and abatement report
Cancellation policy
Class sizes are restricted. In order to provide training to people on waiting lists, we require at least 1 business day (24 hour) notification that a student will not attend a class. Except in the case of emergencies or illness, including illness symptoms, quarantine, or diagnosis, we reserve the right to…
- In the case of same-day cancellation for refresher training classes, refuse refund and retain 100% of the price of each ticket purchased but not used by the registered party. In this case, students will have to purchase a new ticket to attend a refresher on a different date and cannot transfer their ticket fee.
- In the case of same-day cancellation for initial training classes, retain a non-refundable fee equal to 50% of the price of each ticket purchased but not used by the registered party.
