If the student goes past the past refresher due date by one day\, the student cannot work in the discipline. Failure to take a refresher for 2 years means that the student must take an initial again. DESCRIPTION:3-Day Class: Thursday\, March 19th\, Friday\, March 20th\, and Thursday\, March 26th 8am-4pm \nCost: $700 \nASBESTOS INSPECTOR INITIAL DESCRIPTION: \nThis is a 3 day initial course with a half day annual refresher.  Class will run from 8 am to 4 pm each day. \nThe inspector training course includes lectures\, demonstrations\, at least four hours of hands-on training\, and a written examination. The course includes instruction on: \n\nbackground information on asbestos: identification of asbestos\, and examples and discussion of the uses and location of asbestos in facilities and physical appearance of asbestos;\npotential health effects related to asbestos exposure: the nature of asbestos-related diseases; routes of exposure; dose-response relationships and the lack of a safe exposure level; \nfunctions/qualifications and role of inspectors: discussions of the functions of an inspector as compared to those of a management planner and discussion of inspection process including inventory of ACM and physical assessment;\nunderstanding facility systems. Please contact leigh@chem-scope.com for more information. \nOSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101—Roofing and Memorandum of Understanding between OSHA and National Roofing Association 3/15/95: This course is intended to train experienced roofers who may be removing intact (non-friable) asbestos containing roofing. The training is in compliance with OSHA CFR 29 1926-1101 (K)(9). An annual refresher course is required by OSHA. Information is presented on how possible asbestos roofing must be identified and how possible friable asbestos roofing can be identified. This course may not be used for EPA Accreditation or for CT DPH (Connecticut Dept. of Public Health) initial or refresher certification. A separate DPH Approved course must be taken and the individual may then apply for certification. Only asbestos certified workers and supervisors can remove non-intact (friable) roofing. In addition\, an accredited asbestos supervisor (OSHA competent persons) must be on site for evaluation and removal of intact roofing. This supervisor must take a separate 5-day DPH approved course and then apply for DPH certification. This supervisor must take a DPH approved 8 hour annual refresher to maintain certification. DPH certification must be renewed annually. For any work involving friable (non-intact) asbestos containing roofing\, the individual must take a separate DPH Approved course and then apply for certification. OSHA requires training on handling friable (non- intact ACM (asbestos containing materials) and the required material is included in this course. Because of the CT DPH regulations\, however\, persons not certified by DPH may not handle friable asbestos and therefore this aspect of the training exceeds the level of work the student will be doing. Following is the OSHA course curriculum covered in this course. (A) Methods of recognizing asbestos\, including the requirement in CFR 29 1926.1101 paragraph (k)(1) to presume that certain building materials contain asbestos; (B) The health effects associated with asbestos exposure; (C) The relationship between smoking and asbestos in producing lung cancer; (D) The nature of operations that could result in exposure to asbestos\, the importance of necessary protective controls to minimize exposure including\, as applicable\, engineering controls\, work practices\, respirators\, housekeeping procedures\, hygiene facilities\, protective clothing\, decontamination procedures\, emergency procedures\, and waste disposal procedures\, and any necessary instruction in the use of these controls and procedures (E) The purpose\, proper use\, fitting instructions\, and limitations of respirators as required by 29 CFR 1910.134; (F) The appropriate work practices for performing the asbestos job; (G) Medical surveillance program requirements; (H) The content of CFR 29 1926.1101 including appendices; (I) The names\, addresses and phone numbers of public health organizations which provide information\, materials and/ or conduct programs concerning smoking cessation. DESCRIPTION:Time: June 1 – 2\, 2026\, 8 am start time \nCost:$175 per student\, minimum 3 students to run the class \nLocation: 8 Moulthrop Street\, North Haven\, CT 06473 or other agreed-on location \nCourse Description: \nOSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 and EPA 40 CFR 763.92: Course Description and Syllabus: This class is offered to meet OSHA and/or EPA training requirements for workers disturbing small quantities of asbestos. This is a basic course in asbestos safety\, regulations\, and procedures for individuals without asbestos training. It is helpful if individuals are experienced in maintenance or construction work. This course meets the EPA requirements in 40 CFR Part 763 subpart E for school O&M workers who can do small-scale projects involving no more than 3 square or linear feet of Asbestos Containing Material (ACM). This course meets the current OSHA requirements in CFR 29 1926.1101 for workers doing Class III work\, such as asbestos repair. DPH regulations for spot repairs are included in the course. This training is not sufficient for larger-scale removal work or collecting samples. Neither the U.S. nor the State of Connecticut has approval available for this 16-hour course. However\, OSHA and EPA recommend that training providers be used who are approved for other asbestos courses be used to conduct this training. Each person must complete all 16 hours of the training in order to obtain documentation from the provider that the course was completed. There is a course examination. \nCourse topics: Course topics covered are required by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 and EPA 40 CFR 763.92(a)(2) and include the following topics (not limited to): Regulations\, information regarding asbestos and its uses and forms\, information regarding asbestos management plan (if applicable)\, methods of recognizing asbestos and damage to asbestos\, health effects\, smoking and asbestos; the nature of operations that could result in exposure to asbestos\, the importance of necessary protective controls to minimize exposure including\, engineering controls\, work practices\, respirators\, housekeeping procedures\, hygiene facilities\, protective clothing\, decontamination procedures\, emergency procedures\, waste disposal procedures\, the contents of EPA 20T-2003\, “Managing Asbestos In-Place” July 1990\, the purpose\, proper use\, fitting instructions\, and limitations of respirators as required by 29 CFR 1910.134; the appropriate work practices for performing the asbestos job\, medical surveillance program requirements\, names\, addresses and phone numbers of public health organizations which provide information\, materials for programs concerning smoking cessation\, requirements for posting signs and affixing labels. For the additional “Hands-on” training the following is included (not limited to): Descriptions of the proper methods of handling ACBM\, Information on the use of respiratory protection and other personal protection measures\, and the use of respiratory protection\, other personal protection measures\, and good work practices. \nRespirator fit testing cannot be conducted unless the student has proof of prior medical approval and training. Respirators will not be provided. \nAnnual refreshers of at least four (4) hours are required by OSHA. \nRequirements for Certificate Award: A course certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete the course. DESCRIPTION:Cost: $175 per student (minimum 3 students to run the course) \nLocation: 8 Moulthrop Street\, North Haven\, CT \nTime: Monday\, June 8\, 2026\, 8 am – 12 pm \nCourse Description: \nAll attendees must provide evidence of previous 16-hour initial Class III training\, not older than 2 years\, unless Chem Scope already has this information on record from a previous training. \n4-Hour OSHA-EPA Asbestos Class III Operations and Maintenance Refresher OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 and EPA 40 CFR 763.92: OSHA 1926.1101: Training for Class III employees shall be consistent with EPA requirements for training of local education agency maintenance and custodial staff as set forth at 40 CFR 763.92(a)(2). OSHA requires an annual refresher but does not specify the length or content of the refresher training. The refresher course includes a review of the topics covered in the initial course and any pertinent updates. Generally\, we follow the following outline for the refresher training: Training shall include\, but not be limited to: (i) Information regarding asbestos and its various uses and forms. (ii) Information on the health effects associated with asbestos exposure. (iii) Locations of ACBM identified throughout each building in which they work. (iv) Recognition of damage\, deterioration\, and delamination of ACBM. (v) Name and telephone number of the person designated to carry out general local education agency responsibilities under § 763.84 and the availability and location of the management plan. \nRespirator fit testing cannot be conducted unless the student has proof of prior medical approval and training. Respirators will not be provided. \nAnnual refreshers of at least four (4) hours are required by OSHA. \nRequirements for Certificate Award: A course certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete the course. Attendance of the entire class\, demonstrating successful completion of hands-on activities\, payment and passing an exam are required. \n\nCancellation policy\nClass sizes are restricted. In order to provide training to people on waiting lists\, we require at least 1 business day (24 hour) notification that a student will not attend a class. The Lead Inspector Refresher and Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor Refresher are not interchangeable. \nCost: $190.00 \nDPH APPROVED LEAD REFRESHER COURSE: \nRefresher training is required annually under typical circumstances. If the student goes past the past refresher due date by one day\, the student cannot work in the discipline. Failure to take a refresher for 2 years means that the student must take an initial again\, unless otherwise determined by applicable governing agencies. \nGENERAL INFORMATION: \nLead Risk Assessor courses offered at Chem Scope are CT DPH approved under 20-478-1 through 3. Since Connecticut is an EPA authorized state the course are also EPA accredited under EPA CFR 40 745.226 and meet requirements of OSHA 1926.62. Training may be accepted in other states.
