DESCRIPTION:This is a 2-hour virtual lead awareness training including Department of Defense topics. \nCost: $675 per session for up to 20 students \nOSHA 29 CFR 1926.62: \nInitial and Refresher training. Annual refresher required. Attendance of the entire course\, full name\, proof of attendance\, and a passing quiz score are required to get a certificate. \nOSHA 1926.62 requires the employer shall assure that each employee is trained in the following: \n(i) The content of this standard and its appendices;\n(ii) The specific nature of the operations which could result in exposure to lead above the action level;\n(iii) The purpose\, proper selection\, fitting\, use\, and limitations of respirators;\n(iv) The purpose and a description of the medical surveillance program\, and the medical removal protection program including information concerning the adverse health effects associated with excessive exposure to lead (with particular attention to the adverse reproductive effects on both males and females and hazards to the fetus and additional precautions for employees who are pregnant);\n(v) The engineering controls and work practices associated with the employee’s job assignment including training of employees to follow relevant good work practices described in Appendix B of this section;\n(vi) The contents of any compliance plan in effect;\n(vii) Instructions to employees that chelating agents should not routinely be used to remove lead from their bodies and should not be used at all except under the direction of a licensed physician; and\n(viii) The employee’s right of access to records under 29 CFR 1910.20. \nRespirator Fit Testing \nRespirator fit testing must be conducted in person by a competent person. Prerequisite for those who wish to be fit tested is a medical approval form indicating the individual can wear a respirator and the respirator. Individuals must be clean shaven in the area of the respirator seal to the face with a respirator provided by the employer. Fit testing is not included in this ticket price for virtual training. Please contact leigh@chem-scope.com for more information about respirator fit testing. \nVirtual Training Requirements \nRequirements for attending virtual training include (1) a government-issued photo ID or sign-in sheet\, (2) a PC or Mac computer\, (3) a stable internet connection\, (4) a functioning webcam\, (5) a functioning keyboard\, and (6) a functioning mouse. Tablets and smartphones may be used as a backup but will not be supported. A functional headset with microphone is recommended but not required. Each student must be able to download and use the most recent version of Zoom. Students must be able to type to participate in a Google Forms online quiz\, or they must be able to print the quiz\, answer by writing\, and send a picture to the instructor. \nScreenshots will be taken throughout the class to document that each student is present for the entire course. Students must arrive on time to class. Annual refresher required. Attendance of the entire course\, sign-in\, and a passing quiz score are required to get a certificate. \nTraining for employees performing Class IV operations shall be consistent with OSHA 1926.1101 and EPA requirements for training of local education agency maintenance and custodial staff as set forth at 40 CFR 763.92(a) \n(1). 40 CFR 763.92(a)(1). (a) Training. (1) The local education agency shall ensure\, prior to the implementation of the O&M provisions of the management plan\, that all members of its maintenance and custodial staff (custodians\, electricians\, heating/ air conditioning engineers\, plumbers\, etc.) who may work in a building that contains ACBM receive awareness training of at least 2 hours\, whether or not they are required to work with ACBM. New custodial and maintenance employees shall be trained within 60 days after commencement of employment. Training shall include\, but not be limited to: (i) Information regarding asbestos and its various uses and forms. (ii) Information on the health effects associated with asbestos exposure. (iii) Locations of ACBM identified throughout each building in which they work. (iv) Recognition of damage\, deterioration\, and delamination of ACBM. OSHA 1926.1101 (k) (9) (vi): Such a course shall include available information concerning the locations of thermal system insulation and surfacing ACM/PACM\, and asbestos-containing flooring material\, or flooring material where the absence of asbestos has not yet been certified; and instruction in recognition of damage\, deterioration\, and delamination of asbestos containing building materials. \nCourse topics covered are required by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 (vii) Training for employees who are likely to be exposed in excess of the PEL and who are not otherwise required to be trained under paragraph (k)(9)(iii) through (vi) of this section (2 Hour Maintenance and Custodial Training)\, shall meet the requirements of paragraph (k)(9)(viii) of this section. OSHA requires an annual refresher but does not specify the length or content of the refresher training. The refresher course includes a review of the topics covered in the initial course and any pertinent updates. Students who successfully complete the initial course become EPA accredited in the particular discipline and are eligible for licensing in CT and the CONES states. \nRefresher courses are required annually in each discipline for which the student is accredited.  Refresher training for inspectors is 1/2 a day.  The inspectors and inspector / management planners must take the courses separately. All refresher courses are separate and distinct courses and not combined with any other training during the period of the refresher course. \nRefresher training includes a review and discussion of changes in and interpretation of applicable state and federal laws\, regulations\, policies and guidelines\, developments or changes in state-of-the art procedures and equipment and a review of key areas of initial training specific to each discipline.  \nVerification of accreditation information: \nTraining providers of refresher courses must confirm that their students possess valid accreditation before granting course admission. \nVirtual Training Requirements \nRequirements for attending virtual training include (1) a government-issued photo ID\, (2) a PC or Mac computer\, (3) a stable internet connection\, (4) a functioning webcam\, (5) a functioning keyboard\, and (6) a functioning mouse. Tablets will not be supported. A functional headset with microphone will be recommended. Each student must be able to download and use the most recent version of Zoom. Students must be able to type to participate in worksheet-based online hands-on activities\, or they must be able to print the worksheet\, answer by writing\, and send a picture to the instructor. \nScreenshots will be taken throughout the class to document that each student is present for the entire course. Students must arrive on time to class (typically\, 8:00 am EST). Students are also encouraged to be present in the class 30 to 15 minutes early to allow for troubleshooting. \nMany of our students will be new to virtual training. DESCRIPTION:3Day Class: Tuesday\, Wednesday and Thursday 8am-4pm \nCost: $700 \nASBESTOS INSPECTOR INITIAL DESCRIPTION: \nThis is a 3 day initial course with a half day annual refresher.  Class will run from 8 am to 4 pm each day. \nThe inspector training course includes lectures\, demonstrations\, at least four hours of hands-on training\, and a written examination. The course includes instruction on: \n\nbackground information on asbestos: identification of asbestos\, and examples and discussion of the uses and location of asbestos in facilities and physical appearance of asbestos;\npotential health effects related to asbestos exposure: the nature of asbestos-related diseases; routes of exposure; dose-response relationships and the lack of a safe exposure level; \nfunctions/qualifications and role of inspectors: discussions of the functions of an inspector as compared to those of a management planner and discussion of inspection process including inventory of ACM and physical assessment;\nunderstanding facility systems. The interrelationship between facility systems\, including an overview of common facility physical plan layouts; physical organization and where asbestos is found on HVAC components; facility mechanical systems\, their types and organization and where to look for asbestos on such systems; \noccupant relations: notifying employee organizations about the inspection; signs to warn facility occupants; tact in dealing with occupants and the press; scheduling of inspections to minimize disruption and education of facility occupants about actions being taken;\npreinspection planning and review of previous inspection records: scheduling the inspection and obtaining access; facility record review; identification of probable homogeneous areas from blueprints or as-built drawings; \ninspecting for friable and non-friable ACM and assessing the condition of friable ACM: procedures to follow in conducting visual inspection for friable and non-friable ACM; types of building materials that may contain asbestos; touching materials to determine friability; \nbulk sampling/documentation of asbestos in schools: detailed discussion of the “Simplified Sampling Scheme for Friable Surfacing Materials (EPA 560/5-85-030a October 1985. techniques to ensure sampling in a randomly distributed manner for nonfriable surfacing materials; sampling of nonfriable materials;’ techniques for bulk sampling; inspector’s sampling and repair equipment; patching or repair of damage done from sampling; \ninspector respiratory protection and personal protective equipment: classes and characteristics of respirator types; limitations of respirators; proper selection\, inspection\, donning\, use\, maintenance and storage procedures for respirators; \nrecordkeeping and writing the inspection report: labeling of samples and keying sample identification to sampling location; recommendations on sample labeling; detailing of ACM inventory; photographs of selected sampling areas and examples of ACM condition and information required for inclusion in the management plan by TSCA Title II Section 203 (i)(1);\nregulatory review: National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants\, OSHA Asbestos Construction Standard\, AHERA\, applicable state and local regulations;\nfield trip: a field exercise including a walk-through inspection; on-site discussion on information gathering and determination of sampling locations; on-site practice in physical assessment and classroom discussion of field exercise.\n\n\nCOVID-19\nChem Scope\, Inc. updates its COVID-19 safety protocol regularly to comply with the current state and federal guidance. By attending class during the COVID-19 pandemic\, students agree to follow current local and federal regulations and Chem Scope\, Inc. safety protocols. Training center occupants will not be required to show proof of vaccination at this time. Masks will be provided to those who would like them. \nWhen community levels are high\, acceptable face coverings include surgical masks\, N95 respirators\, and KN95 respirators. We will provide acceptable masks on site for those who forget a face covering\, but those who use their own respirator or a face-covering/respirator provided by Chem Scope\, Inc. do so voluntarily and at their own risk.
