LEAD INSPECTOR TRAINING SYLLABUS

Prerequisite for those who wish to be fit tested is a medical approval form indicating the individual can wear a respirator and the respirator.

Individuals must be clean shaven in the area of the respirator seal to the face.

Course presentation includes lectures, demonstrations, at least eight hours of hands-on training, a hands on skills assessment, and a written examination. The course includes instruction on:

Background information on Federal, State, and local regulations and guidance that pertains to lead-based paint and lead- based paint activities.

Public, Building and Occupant and Employee Relations,

Preinspection Planning

Lead-based paint inspection methods, including selection of rooms and components for sampling or testing*

Paint, Dust and Soil Sampling *

Testing Methods

Reoccupancy Testing, Clearance standards and testing including random sampling*

Personal Protection

Cost Estimating and Overview of Abatement

Reports and Recordkeeping including formulating and implementing the final inspection report*

New DPH Encapsulation Requirements

* Require hands on training and passing grading on hands on skills for course completion (in addition to full 24 hour attendance and to passing the final written examination).
